Chloe orchestrated the collaboration of multiple teams seamlessly and advocated tirelessly for her patient’s wishes.
On a Saturday,  one of Chloe's patients was continuously having oxygen desaturation issues, requiring him to be placed on BiPAP. However, the patient’s family was not comfortable transitioning him to comfort care since he was still very alert. Chloe was in and out of that room all day,  talking to physicians and respiratory therapy continuously. The physician spoke with the family about options since the patient wasn't improving.

By Sunday morning, the patient had become distressed and shared that he wanted the BiPAP off; he wanted to be with his wife that passed away 40 days prior. Chloe, the empathetic nurse that she is, took this to heart and recognized that the patient no longer wanted to suffer. She acted quickly and compassionately by contacting the family, physicians, chaplain, and hospice team, all before completing her morning medication pass.

As soon as Chloe told the patient that his family and MDs respected his wishes, his mood immediately improved. The hospice nurse arrived soon after and transitioned his care. The patient and the family were relieved and deeply grateful. He was gently weaned from BiPAP, started on a morphine drip for comfort, and was able to speak with his family and even enjoy sips of Scotch, as he had requested.

The patient passed away less than 3 hours later, with his family at his side. They expressed a profound sense of peace in being able to witness such a calm and dignified passing.

Chloe orchestrated the collaboration of multiple teams seamlessly and advocated tirelessly for her patient’s wishes. This is just one of many examples of how Chloe consistently goes above and beyond to provide compassionate, person-centered care.
