Cheryl changed my life with her compassion and brave commitment. I was involved in a head-on collision and I was also 34 weeks pregnant. Halfway home from a 12-hour shift, cars were swerving in front of me and then I heard the crash. I smelled the airbags and the only thing I could think about is if my unborn baby was ok.
I tried to get out of the car until I realized I was pinned. This is when I heard the many efforts of the people outside of the car trying to get me out. The very next voice I heard was from Cheryl Signor and I will remember it forever: "Hello, my name is Cheryl. We are going to get through this." She got in my car and sat next to me and comforted me until help arrived. She kept assuring me that WE were in this together. She put her own life at risk to help.
Because of Cheryl, I didn't panic. She rubbed my back, kept me calm, and wiped my tears. When EMS arrived, Cheryl insisted on staying with me until I was out of the car. Even in the ambulance I still heard her voice telling me that everything was going to be ok.
I am beyond grateful for the incredibly selfless and astoundingly courageous woman that Cheryl is.
