Her blend of clinical mastery, emotional intelligence, and true compassion makes her unforgettable.
Through my husband's ten years of illness, I've encountered many healthcare professionals. Most were good. They did what was expected, and I'm grateful. But once in a rare while, you meet someone who rises far above expectations, who quietly changes everything by the way they show up. That person is Cheryl Griffin.

As a staff nurse for internal medicine doctors at Mass General, Cheryl didn't just care for my husband; she cared for me, too. During his hospitalizations, Cheryl visited regularly, even when she wasn't directed to see him. She asked how we were doing, gave us her time, and brought comfort into moments that were deeply difficult. Her clinical skill is exceptional.

When others struggled to draw blood, Cheryl stepped in with calm precision. She administered care with confidence and grace, always making us feel safe. She has a deep understanding of patient needs and a quiet ability to lead through even the most complicated situations. One moment stands out with particular clarity. My husband had just undergone surgery and was recovering in Dr. M's office, groin full of drains and sutures, dreading the painful trip to the lab in another building for bloodwork. Phlebotomy on my husband was notoriously difficult, often requiring multiple sticks and causing considerable discomfort.

Cheryl didn't wait for a request. She left her own office, walked to the surgeon's suite, and drew the needed blood samples herself. The doctor and his staff were visibly awed that she came to my husband rather than making him go to the lab. With her exceptional phlebotomy skills, Cheryl succeeded on the very first attempt, something even seasoned professionals struggled to do. Her compassion that day wasn't loud or dramatic. She simply appeared, saw what was needed, and made my husband’s day more bearable. We were deeply grateful, not just for her clinical excellence, but for the way she always chose kindness over convenience.

Another afternoon, I was struggling to push my husband in his wheelchair to another appointment across campus. There were no volunteers available, and I was physically exhausted. Cheryl saw this and offered to help on her own lunch break. She wheeled him to Charles River Plaza herself. It wasn't required, but it was deeply needed. I'll never forget that kindness. Even outside her assigned working hours, Cheryl is always a phone call away. If something's wrong, she listens and solves the problem. It's not part of her duties; it's simply part of who she is, a caring, compassionate person who never gives up on her patients.

As older patients and caregivers, it’s easy to feel invisible or like a burden. Cheryl has never made us feel that way; she treats us like family. Cheryl doesn't just care; she uplifts. Her blend of clinical mastery, emotional intelligence, and true compassion makes her unforgettable. Cheryl, thank you for being the kind of nurse who doesn't just treat patients, but changes lives. Your care made us feel seen, safe, and never alone, and we will always be grateful.
