I would like to recommend Cherryl Guthrie, RN, from the Saints Mary & Elizabeth Cancer Center Infusion Clinic at St. Joseph Hospital for the DAISY Award. In a matter of a day, my life changed when I was diagnosed with throat cancer. Fear of the unknown came over me as I tried to grasp such a diagnosis. As I worked with the members of the Cancer Center to plan my regimen for chemotherapy, I met Cherryl in the Infusion Center. I knew I was in good hands from the minute I met her. Cherryl is a caring nurse. She was compassionate when she needed to be but also frank with me when I needed to hear things that were not pleasant. My face always lit up when I would see her walk into the cancer center, knowing she would be my nurse. She had a great sense of humor, which helped me get through some tough days and weeks. She was my advocate for any questions I had, and she helped me to be positive on days when I didn't think I could make it through. She had a sense of calm about her whenever she was caring for me. Cherryl is the epitome of what a nurse is. She gave me hope every week I saw her, and that helped me to fight this disease. She is like a member of my family, and I will be forever grateful to her for her hugs, her kind words, her hope, and her encouragement to deal with such a horrible disease. For this reason, I would like to recommend Cherryl for the DAISY Award!
