Her ability to connect with patients on a personal level, providing comfort and reassurance during challenging times, is truly remarkable.
Cheri Filewood is so deserving of this honor. She consistently demonstrates a compassionate and empathetic approach towards her patients. Her ability to connect with patients on a personal level, providing comfort and reassurance during challenging times, is truly remarkable.
She goes above and beyond to ensure that each patient receives the highest level of care and support, making a positive impact on their overall well-being.
In addition to her exceptional patient care, she has also shown remarkable skills by mentoring new nurses. She willingly shares her knowledge and expertise, guiding them through the complexities of their new roles and helping them develop into confident and competent professionals.
Her commitment to nurturing the growth of her colleagues is commendable and greatly contributes to the success of our nursing team and UMC as a whole.
Furthermore, she actively volunteers for various committees within our organization. Her involvement in these initiatives showcases her dedication to improving the quality of care provided to our patients and our community.
This past year, with very short notice, she took over the Research and Empowerment Day and thanks to her skills, knowledge, leadership and dedication it was a total success. She worked tirelessly sorting posters, making sure they were in the proper format, and organized the event. While it may sound like a simple task, I can assure you that it is labor intensive. I came in many days, and yet she was there revising and editing posters so that they could be displayed for our community. Some of those posters hold key information that may influence change in patients and their families’ lives.
She inspired many nurses who had never submitted a poster to do one. She, for many of us, is more than a colleague, she’s a great friend. She is always there to lend a listening ear if needed.
She has been a nurse for over 32 years here at UMC. She has dedicated more than half her life to providing outstanding patient care. She is not only an active team player on the burn care unit, but hospital-wide.
Some examples of her participation are she is Co-chair of UBC on Burn Unit. She has been a member of several performance improvement groups on the unit to increase quality and safety for patients. One of her burn prevention posters won first place at the 2022 American Burn Association conference. Another burn prevention poster won 3rd place at the 2023 ABA conference.
She teaches ABLS quarterly.
She precepts new nurses to the unit.
She participates in prevalence quarterly.
She is a member of the ambassador team to support Pathway to Excellence Standards and embraces the Magnet culture.
She attends system Council monthly.
As a bedside Nurse, Cheri works full time, so she is here frequently every day! For all that she has done and her dedication to UMC and her patients over the course of more than three decades, I am honored to present the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award to Cheri.
