Chase eased my discomfort completely; her manner was comforting, gentle, and kind.
Chase made a significant difference in the trajectory of my care. I had been on NPO for days and felt so nauseous from lack of food that I was frustrated, depressed, and sad. I had experienced many setbacks, from infection to going back to surgery for a hematoma, and my drains were leaking constantly. I felt dirty, cold, and completely discouraged. When Chase walked in, she sensed how much I was suffering. She gathered everything for a warm sponge bath and got to work. I felt so much better afterward; she made me feel clean! She put a new gown on me, elevated my feet, and then informed me that I had graduated to clear liquids. She immediately brought me the apple juice I had been craving. She cared for my mom by getting her water, completely changed my bedding, and made it right. She explained all the medications, their functions, and how they would help my liver. She was knowledgeable and kind, checking on me all day with a smile and encouragement. I am a modest person, so being in such a vulnerable state was hard for me. Chase eased my discomfort completely; her manner was comforting, gentle, and kind. I cannot convey how her intervention and presence changed my attitude, outlook, and mindset for the rest of my stay. My body and mind had endured significant trauma from the transplant, and I was still adjusting to this new normal.
I knew I would miss Thanksgiving, which made me so sad. Chase’s help changed my perspective, allowing me to look past that disappointment. I cannot emphasize how much Chase’s care impacted me and my stay. I remember everything she did; she is truly an angel. She mentioned that day she chose to help the transplant ward because she was floating and saw they needed assistance. I thank God she made that choice and was assigned as my nurse. A few days later, she spotted my mom and ran to her in the hallway to inquire about my condition. Her level of care exemplifies what a nurse should be. She was terrific, and I know my stay would have been much worse without her. She even fixed my drain to stop it from leaking.
