Catie does a great job of seeing the patient as a real person and attempts to connect with them on a personal level.
Catie is in her final semester of the ASN program. She has exemplified compassionate care throughout her clinical time at Somerset. I have had the opportunity to be her clinical instructor this semester and have witnessed this firsthand. She can often be found in her patient's room, not only providing care, but simply having conversations and creating rapport with the patient and family.
This past week in clinical, I was helping a student care for a patient who had been on the unit for several weeks and Catie had cared for him the week prior. Knowing he had been dealing with significant medical and social issues, Catie made it a point to stop in his room several times throughout the day. She wanted to check on him as he had been weighing heavily on her mind. She made sure he didn't need anything, spent some time talking to him about topics they had discussed the week before, and provided him with some much-needed social interactions. Catie does a great job of seeing the patient as a real person and attempts to connect with them on a personal level. In my opinion, she epitomizes compassionate care.
