Cathy's knowledge, creative outside-the-box ideas for labor positions, and empowering encouragement are what helped me make it through.
My water broke at an Obs appointment and it wasn’t until 51 hours later my son was born. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever done. While most of my nurses were phenomenal – Cathy stood above them all. She was our nurse Tuesday and Wednesday evening and I don't know if I would have had a vaginal delivery without her. I got an epidural due to circumstances I could not control and was devastated. Cathy helped me change positions every 30 minutes, did robozo with me – which helped move my son from OP. She provided steady, calm encouragement and support. I had a foley cath, internal monitor, bp cuff, IVs, baby monitor and cords everywhere. I felt urged to reposition often due to hard back labor and Cathy graciously helped move all my cords and wires every time. Her knowledge, creative outside-the-box ideas for labor positions and empowering encouragement are what helped me make it through. On the night I delivered she recommended the nurse who came on after her and was there for my delivery and she was a great fit. Cathy’s experience, wisdom and calm approach were exactly what I needed as a first time, anxious and exhausted laboring mom. I feel so thankful that I was able to have her there. At the end of my labor I developed a fever, my urine turned Hawaiian punch and they found I had a UTI. As Cathy navigated getting those results she never once make me feel it was not under control. She advocated for me when I needed my epidural re-bolused 3 times and was a huge support to my husband and I. After we made it to Couplet Care – she took time to visit our family. Her love for her job and investment in me was so evident. She is an absolute asset to WBH.
