Cathy worked countless hours over days to secure approval for the medication.
Cathy is an exceptional nurse who provides patient-centered care to all of our neurology patients. She exemplifies the 'Patient Always' and 'Integrity' values that drive Inova to a higher standard. She shares her knowledge and skill with dedication to the success of her patients and the success of our team.
A special experience I witnessed was her diligence in obtaining a life-saving medication for one of our patients. The patient had failed many alternative medications but was not able to obtain a newly prescribed medication due to their insurance denying numerous prior authorizations. Cathy worked countless hours over days to secure approval for the medication. The patient and family were overwhelmed with gratitude when Cathy shared the news of the approval and supported them in initiating treatment and connecting them with the right people expeditiously.
I think we often overlook outpatient nurses for this award because it's assumed the work is 'easier' or 'less important' than the work that is done by our inpatient colleagues. However, outpatient nurses represent the ongoing dedication of Inova to provide care throughout the lifespan. They are the frontline workers for patients in the community to support their long-term success. This is not only to keep them out of the hospital, but to help them flourish and achieve the best quality of life.
Cathy, day in and day out, represents what is special about outpatient nurses and the care that our outpatient Inova nurses provide. She goes above and beyond to support the best treatments for our patients. She gets to know her patients personally. She learns their stories and deeply understands what struggles they go through and what barriers may be in place. What is unique in the relationships she builds is that her patients thoroughly trust her and know she will put her whole heart into advocating for them.
I am so blessed to have the opportunity to work with Cathy daily. I recommend her 100% for this award and am honored to share the work she has done for our patients and Inova.
