My husband was hospitalized at Huntington after suffering a stroke, and I want to share how profoundly Cathy supported our family during one of the most frightening times of my life. When we first met Cathy, my husband was clearly not himself, and it was evident that something was seriously wrong. The Stroke Unit staff responded immediately, and Cathy arrived right away, calmly explaining what was happening and remaining with us as my husband required emergency surgery with Dr. K.

From that moment on, Cathy became a steady source of comfort, strength, and reassurance for our family. Throughout my husband’s stay in the Stroke Unit, Cathy checked in on us daily during her rounds. I had countless questions, and she answered them all with patience, clarity, and compassion. When I became anxious about what discharge and returning home would look like, Cathy connected me with the appropriate resources, including case management and other team members who could guide us through the process.

Cathy is also an exceptional leader. Her staff clearly reflects her caring, compassionate, and thoughtful approach to patient care. She took the time to be present with my husband and me, offering support and reassurance when we needed it most. In a hospital setting, where fear and stress can be overwhelming, Cathy and her team made us feel safe.

Our experience in the Stroke Unit was truly outstanding. The nurses were incredible, and Cathy stood out as an extraordinary presence throughout our journey. She exemplifies the compassion, leadership, and excellence that the DAISY Award represents.
