August 2026 Honoree
Cassidy Ledman, RN
I want to take a moment to recognize an exceptional nurse, Cassidy Ledman, for the compassion, empathy, and excellence she consistently demonstrates in the care she provides to our patients.
Cassidy has been described by her patients as someone who provides care in a joyful and compassionate manner. One patient shared, “Cassidy is a wonderful caregiver. She was very compassionate and caring. I had a procedure done that day that required her time and attention in and out all day. She always took care of my needs joyfully and professionally all the while taking care of her other patients. Sweet personality. Thank you Cassidy for all your TLC.”
This sentiment is something I hear consistently when rounding on the unit. Cassidy has a natural ability to make patients feel cared for, valued, and comfortable, even during some of their most difficult moments. Her kindness and positive attitude are evident in every interaction.
Cassidy’s exceptional contributions are also recognized by her peers. She frequently receives caregiver celebrations thanking her for her teamwork and willingness to support those around her. Her calm demeanor and strong clinical knowledge also make her an excellent educator. She consistently takes on newly graduated nurses, providing guidance, encouragement, and hands-on support as they learn to care for our complex patient population.
Although Cassidy provides exceptional care to all of her patients, there is one particular circumstance that truly exemplifies her compassion and empathy.
Cassidy was caring for one of our oncology patients who had previously battled cancer, only to face another diagnosis requiring treatment once again. Because of her history, the patient received chemotherapy in the inpatient setting. During each visit, the patient's mother would be by her side and light a candle (battery-operated) at the beginning of each chemotherapy administration.
On her sixth and final visit, the patient did not want to ring the bell traditionally used to signify completion of therapy. Rather than allowing that moment to pass without recognition, Cassidy and her peers thoughtfully created another way to honor the patient's journey. She rallied as many team members as she could, and they gathered at the patient's bedside to read a heartfelt poem while her mother lit the final candle.
For Cassidy, this may have been just another part of her shift. For the patient and her family, however, it became something much more meaningful. It was a deeply personal moment that they will carry with them as a core memory for the rest of their lives.
This is what makes Cassidy such an exceptional nurse. She recognizes that nursing is not simply about completing tasks or administering treatments; it is about seeing the person behind the diagnosis and creating moments of compassion, dignity, and connection. Cassidy consistently goes above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of her patients, their families, and her colleagues.
Cassidy is truly deserving of recognition for the nurse, educator, teammate, and compassionate caregiver that she is.
