There was a patient who was diagnosed with Pre-Eclampsia early in her pregnancy. She was well known to the nurses because of the tragic loss of her father. This patient was in and out of the hospital due to elevated blood pressures. The last time she was admitted to the hospital, she, unfortunately, had to have an emergency Cesarean section, which resulted in the demise of the Neonate. Distraught from the loss of her father and now the loss of her baby, the patient was having a difficult time coping. Carole showed kindness and compassion that gave the patient peace. When attempting to pick a funeral home for the baby, the patient expressed financial hardship due to the fact that she is a public school teacher and had to pay for her father's funeral. Carole took it upon herself to call nearby funeral homes to find out the cost of not only a funeral service, but a keepsake for the baby's cremains. This resulted in a nearby funeral home covering the cost of the baby's funeral service/cremation and a keepsake necklace for the patient. Carole went above and beyond for this patient. She is an exemplary nurse. When I heard she had done this, it brought tears to my eyes. I'm sure this patient will remember her forever.
