She maintained a high level of professionalism, which did not hinder her compassion and fun-loving spirit. She was always accessible.
My mother had to be readmitted due to complications from an infection after a Whipple surgery. Carly Hatfield was our daytime nurse. Her positive, steady, and compassionate attitude was evident from the very start. She maintained a high level of professionalism, which did not hinder her compassion and fun-loving spirit. She was always accessible.

We were very concerned about the infection around the site of her drain tube. After several days of antibiotics, it still wasn’t getting better. She listened to us, kept in touch with the residents, and even took the initiative to contact my mom’s doctor’s office once I got them on the phone. We sought out a resident physician to explain the details, and then she, along with Carly, drained the abscess pockets around the drain tube site.

The antibiotic was not infiltrating the area due to the amount of pus and infection, and the nurse was aware of this and became an advocate for us. She stayed on top of the situation to ensure the doctors took everything seriously and acted promptly. My mom was doing so much better within hours of that action. In addition to the resident physician, my mom wanted to see her primary doctor, whom she trusted and had not seen since the infection developed. Carly knew it was important for us to see the doctor, so she sent messages about that, and he was there within a couple of hours. By the time we left, we were giving Carly goodbye hugs. She was terrific and such an asset to the nursing world.
