Valley View is a better place because of people like Carlos. The entire night shift is blessed to work with him.
Carlos is an outstanding nurse. He is very helpful and understanding. I came to rehab with a broken leg, and I have never had such a kind, honest and understanding nurse. He is so hard-working. He works with all the staff making sure they are ok and don't need help. At the same time, he always made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. If anyone deserves this award, it is him. He is always on top of everything, and he truly cares about his patients. Some nights I would be frustrated or upset, and Carlos would take the time and sit by my bedside and talk things out with me and keep me positive. He would stay with me as long as I needed him to. I'm sure his caring words of encouragement are what helped me through. That is someone special. Thank you, Carlos. You are an amazing nurse.

*****

On behalf of the night shift staff, we would like to submit a DAISY Award nomination for Carlos Payne. Carlos is not only an amazing nurse, but he is the shining star of the VVMC night shift nursing staff. There is not a night that goes by when Carlos isn’t going from unit to unit and helping out wherever he can. He can function in any unit 100% and helps with a smile. It is not often you have a nurse who makes rounds on every unit and makes sure someone doesn’t need help. He will transfer patients from ER to the floor, he will help CNAs with a bed bath, or just sit and talk with a patient in the middle of the night because they just need a little TLC. Valley View is a better place because of people like Carlos. The entire night shift is blessed to work with him. Here are some direct quotes from our supervisors about Carlos:

“I want to send out a special thanks to Carlos from rehab. Med/Surg was overwhelmed with confused, altered patients. We also had patients who were just very sick. Carlos, without being asked for help directly, saw what was going on. With only one patient on Rehab who was asleep, Carlos helped Med/Surg do vitals, provide needed care to patients, and assist in a myriad of ways before returning to his unit. It was an amazing insight into what was needed, and it was appropriate actions taken. I want to single him out for this, thank him, and let everyone else know what an amazing job he did.”

“I wanted to point out that Carlos again was very helpful last night. When time permits, he is always willing to lend a hand. Even if it is just to raise morale. The man is a good nurse, a great colleague, and a good person.”
