Candice is the type of nurse everyone should aspire to be. She made my mom feel safe and taken care of while she was in the hospital. My mom has a lot of complex medical needs, and she took the time to listen to us and help individualize her care. She is the epitome of a kind-hearted nurse who practices patient and family-centered care. The way she interacted with my mom when she had "hospital delirium" was remarkable. She helped my mom get up to the commode instead of putting her on the bedpan. She never once said she was "too busy," knowing it was going to take a long time. She truly wanted to help my mom hit her goals of getting out of bed and doing as much as she could for herself while maintaining her safety. She explained every med on the MAR, what it was for, and why the doctors had made the changes to her regimen. She made us feel heard and helped advocate when we didn't feel we were being heard by the medical team. When she was in our room, she made us feel like my mom was the only patient in the unit (even though we knew there were lots of other patients to think about!). We could tell she is a strong leader and mentor for her nurses.
