After multiple days in the hospital for an induction, I did not feel well. I was tired and lonely, and my body did not feel well after days of medications trying to induce labor. From the second Candace stepped foot in my room, she took the time to listen to me and immediately began helping me with one problem at a time. Candace was there, encouraging me and cheering me on as I progressed. Then, the unthinkable happened. As a nurse, I know when a patient is hemorrhaging. I was scared out of my mind when I saw myself in that situation after birth. Candace was right there just as she had been all day. She never left my side. She advocated for me. She spoke up, and she made phone calls that ultimately saved my life. She never took a lunch break because she was in my room all day, standing there holding my hand through it all. Even though she may never remember me, Candace will always hold a special place in my heart.
