I have had the pleasure of working with Camille over the past few months whose skills as a nurse have truly impacted me and have revealed to me that nursing is sometimes simply in our blood. She has only been a nurse for about a year but has shown over and over again that she has the compassion, empathy, and the critical thinking skills that are necessary to be a nurse. However, there is one instance that was the most powerful that led me to write this letter.
We recently took care of a 56-year-old woman who ended up passing away on our floor from cancer. She had two beautiful daughters, 10-years-old and 16-years-old. They both suffered a tremendous loss losing their own mother at such a young age. Camille was the RN caring for her during this difficult time. She took it upon herself to go to a craft store after work to get some crafts to make "tokens", if you will, with their mother's fingerprint on each of them as a way of being able to always have their mother with them. She also wrote a letter to the girls expressing her sympathy for their loss.
This to me went above and beyond. There are many other stories that I could share with you concerning the care that Camille gives to her patients, but I believe that sums up who she is and how much she deserves to be recognized for her efforts. I know it is hard at times for us as nurses to be recognized because we do these acts expecting nothing in return, however, sometimes it is simply warranted.
