Calista is the nurse I'd like to have as a patient.
Since Calista joined the BEMC team, she has been observed to be a special nurse. Demonstrating kindness and compassion. Always observed to be dedicated to her patients and always willing to help those around her. She is an excellent partner in collaboration with our most special complex patients, as well as extra caring with those who need extra support as they endure unexpected loss.
Specific examples include Calista going above and beyond with a patient who is pending behavioral health placement. The patient had no family, wanted to make a change in her life, and be the best for her newborn. This is not a typical process in postpartum. Calista provided the care and showed empathy. Provided active listening and walked with the patient on the unit until transfer was facilitated, making the patient feel heard and validated. Her communication with social work and the patient was valued.
Calista was a strong advocate for a mom who had an emergent delivery and a stressful encounter with a community entity. She communicated with leadership and social work to ensure the patient felt heard, safe, and created a smooth healing environment.
Calista went above and beyond for a mom who had suffered a loss, even when this was not her assigned patient. She ensured communication, education,n and collaboration. In essence, Calista is the nurse I'd like to have as a patient.
