This is long overdue, but it took some time for me to fully recover from my hospitalization. A few months back, I was in the darkest place of my life. Life got the best of me, and I decided that living was more painful than death. I decided to take a bunch of pills. EMS was called, and I was brought to the ED. I would like to add that I am an RN in the Emergency Department I was brought to. I was pretty sick, being cared for by my peers. Caleb was in charge this day and quickly stepped up to help care for me. Unfortunately, my chief complaint described why I was in the ED, an intentional overdose, which was visible on the track board for all staff to see.

Caleb not only helped care for me, but in the words of other team members, also guarded my door like it was his only job. Caleb went out of his way to redirect staff who were trying to look in my room, stopping staff who tried to enter to talk to me. Caleb not only cared for my medical needs but also protected my privacy and dignity. The EMS crew that brought me in asked if I preferred to go to UPMC, and I declined because I knew my peers would take the best care of me. Caleb far surpassed basic nursing care. I was admitted to the ICU and made a full recovery. I will be forever grateful to Caleb for going out of his way to protect me!
