I came to the unit feeling exhausted from pain and being in the ER since midnight. Besides the ER doctor, the second person who genuinely welcomed me was Nurse Bruce. He was so kind and respectful from the moment they wheeled me in. In the back of my mind, I thought I didn't even want to open my eyes and see the disappointment in these nurses' eyes, knowing I would be the next person they would have to take care of. I opened my eyes once we got to the room, and there was Bruce. A huge smile and welcoming gesture. He quickly acknowledged why I was there and showed compassion for what I was going through. He explained how he related to the same situation. He walked me through hour by hour, day by day, what I was going to feel. Everything was exact and precise information. Since falling asleep was difficult for me, once I finally fell asleep and Bruce had to wake me up for medications or other routine tasks, he did so with great care and gentleness. It truly felt like my brother, someone I loved. Even though I had a good experience with all the other nurses, I was always looking forward to seeing Bruce. My family felt the same way.
What stood out about Bruce was that when anyone expressed frustration, whether it was the patient next to me or a coworker, he responded respectfully by correcting and educating, setting a good example for how to handle it next time or see it in a positive light. Bruce didn't just show my family and me what a good nurse should be like; he showed us what a good human is! All his actions were based on love. The world needs more humans like Bruce!

Bruce went above and beyond to help, and he was kind to me post-surgery. He was an amazing advocate for me in my care and helped me speak up for myself. He was excellent in all aspects and is an asset to the hospital!

Nurse Bruce was an amazing nurse and took great care of me. He was compassionate and always professional. He took great care administering my medications, taking care of my IV, and generally helping me feel more comfortable during my stay. I am extremely impressed with the care he provided.

My significant other was on the second floor for 5 days after being rushed to the OR with a ruptured appendix. We had a rough couple of days at first with the complications, but throughout his stay there, Nurse Bruce was amazing. His balance of reality and compassion was unmatched. He was sincere with us at all times, and his warmth gave him and me comfort. He explained everything clearly and never gave me an attitude, even with the many questions I had. It is the first time I am in a hospital, but I feel like I am part of the family.

Words cannot express how grateful I am for him, and I hope God blesses him with many more years in his nursing career so he can continue to positively touch and serve many more families in their most vulnerable and needed moments. We're so happy our paths crossed with Nurse Bruce, and here are a few things that describe him: compassionate, kind, empathetic, professional, dedicated, committed, patient, excellent communicator, detail-oriented, reliable, dependable, competent, calm at all times, and respectful. treated us and everyone with dignity, had a positive attitude, and definitely went above and beyond our expectations. He is a true blessing.

Thank you, Bruce, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
