I would like to nominate Brooke Lynch for the DAISY Award and formally recognize the care and concern that she provided for a vulnerable patient on 8N. While driving into work, she took notice of a person on the street who appeared to be one of our long-term patients. She knew that this patient had a cognitive impairment that required him to remain in the hospital. Upon noticing the patient, she pulled over her car and attempted to approach the gentleman to inquire how and why he was out of the hospital. Despite his paranoia, Brooke stayed with him and made him the necessary calls until he was safely returned to the unit where he could continue his care. Even during her off hours, Brooke kept the safety and security of our patients at the forefront of her identity as a nurse. There are many ways that nurses provide care to our patients. Brooke’s selfless concern for patient safety, highlighted in the example above, should also be recognized as the extraordinary way she makes a difference in the lives of our patients.
