Brooke provided me with incredible care and support during both of my postpartum experiences.
Brooke was my postpartum nurse after the birth of my premature, twin girls, who needed care in the NICU, and again after the birth of my third baby. In both experiences, she was exactly the emotional and physical support I needed, meeting me with compassion, strength, and encouragement at some of the most vulnerable moments of my life.
After my twins were born prematurely, I was recovering physically while also coping with the heartbreak and uncertainty of being separated from them. Brooke stepped into my room with so much encouragement and kindness. She got me up and moving when I didn't think I could, supported my recovery, and constantly checked in on my mental health. What truly amazed me was hearing from another nurse that, even after I was discharged, Brooke and her colleague would go down to the NICU on their overnight shifts to cheer on my girls. That kind of love and dedication goes far beyond the job. It shows the kind of nurse and person she is.
When my third baby was born, I was fortunate to have her in the room with us. While this birth was easier on me mentally, Brooke was still there, walking me through all the not-so-glamorous parts of postpartum recovery with her signature kindness and professionalism. When she first walked into my room, I thought it might be her, but it was hard to tell since she had always worn a mask during my first postpartum stay. When I realized it was Brooke, I was overjoyed! So much so, my fiancé joked I was “fan-girling” over her, and he was right.
Brooke is the kind of nurse you hope to have during one of life's hardest and most transformative moments. Brooke is more than a nurse. She is a rockstar! She goes above and beyond in her care, not only supporting physical recovery but also being a steady anchor emotionally. As I've told my family and friends, we may be just one patient to her, but she will forever be a part of my birth stories. She embodies everything the DAISY Award represents and more. Brooke will forever be part of my family's story.
