My father was a patient for five days in the step-down unit, when made the decision to start hospice care. Due to the fact that he was on so much oxygen, we could not bring him home. From the moment Brooke came on shift, and I explained my dad’s wishes, she supported both him and me.
Brooke helped explain things to him before hospice care started and guided me through as things progressed throughout the day. She helped me to get my daughter home (she is in the Army and stationed overseas) by talking to the Red Cross and moving the process along for my family very quickly. When the Doctor did not put medications in quickly enough, and my dad was in pain, she went to the Pharmacy to get them herself!
She advocated for him to have other medications ordered to keep him comfortable while keeping me informed throughout it all. She was kind to all of our extended family and, most importantly, my father. Brooke made this most difficult situation bearable. I can't thank her enough – I wish every nurse could take a lesson from her on patient care – because she not only cared for my dad, but she also cared for our entire family.
Thank you again, Brooke, for everything!
