Perhaps the most touching gesture was at the funeral home, where we each received a beautiful keepsake with Papa’s real handprint and heartbeat.
My grandpa, “Papa,” was rushed to the hospital and intubated. Brittny was the day nurse. Papa was very sick, and Brittny was constantly in and out of the room—not only to check on him and quickly adjust his life support machines but also to ask my family and me if we needed anything. You could truly feel the warmth radiating from her. She shared how close she is with her own grandparents, and it was comforting to know she genuinely cared about us and that we weren’t alone. It was incredible to watch her work alongside the crew—Brittny never faltered, always thinking quickly to ensure Papa was as comfortable as possible. Everything was done with remarkable efficiency, from adjusting his machines to repositioning him in bed to attending to his hygiene and comfort care, including providing extra blankets whenever she noticed a drop in temperature.

When Jackie took over at night, her compassion and confidence were immediately evident. She diligently updated us during the night, honestly sharing that Papa’s blood was becoming acidic. Seeing Brittny again in the morning was a relief—her presence brought comfort. She brought refreshments and continued to check on us throughout the day. When we took Papa off life support and he passed, Brittny checked on us shortly after. I could tell she truly shared in our pain. She hugged my sister and me and offered her condolences.  Perhaps the most touching gesture was at the funeral home, where we each received a beautiful keepsake with Papa’s real handprint and heartbeat. Brittny had taken the time to create these gifts using his original handprints. Having worked in healthcare for five years as a CNA during college before pursuing a different career path, I have never encountered a more outstanding nurse than Brittny. I could not have asked for a better experience or a more caring team during this difficult time. Thank you so much, on behalf of my family and me. It truly meant the world to us. I know that if Papa had been conscious, he would have been absolutely delighted to have met all of you and to have had such wonderful nurses by his side every day.
