Brittany has been a nurse to my daughter L, for over two years in the hematology oncology clinic on the fifth floor at Golisano. There is not a visit that goes by that Brittany doesn’t stop to make sure everything is going well with L and to update herself on L’s progress and how much she has improved. It’s almost like L is her only patient. She asks about all the family members, and she remembers names. She always recognizes small things, like if L changed her hair, painted her nails, or even just added eyelashes to her face! Two years ago, Brittany was one of the first clinicians we encountered at the clinic. We couldn’t be more grateful for her. L’s journey began at Golisano, coming through the ER and eventually needing a bone marrow transplant. There has never been a visit when Brittany hasn’t asked L about her comfort level and how she felt about her sticking the needle in her hand vs her arm before drawing labs. Brittany always makes sure L knows what to expect and allows L to decide on what she’d prefer. Most recently, we were here for lab work, and Brittany was our nurse. Again, she never fell short of excellent care. After finding out that L had been fasting all afternoon for blood work, she immediately offered food choices to L. She was concerned that L had not eaten all day, and it was 3 pm. Without hesitation, Brittany quickly whipped up some easy Macaroni and cheese and gave L the beverage of her choice. Brittany never misses an opportunity to model exceptional patient care. It does not matter the day or time, Brittany has always been a bright light in our lives. We always leave the clinic feeling educated, supported, and motivated to continue healing on L’s journey. Brittany is definitely a hero and has made a difference in our lives. As a mother, you can only pray that the medical care your daughter receives is adequate. Brittany goes far beyond that. She actively listens to L, and she knows exactly what L needs before you even ask. Brittany's dedication and compassion as a nurse are truly extraordinary. She not only heals with her skills but also uplifts the spirits of everyone around her. Her ability to provide comfort and care in the most challenging times makes a world of difference.
