Bee consistently demonstrates excellent clinical skills and advocates strongly for her patients.
I am pleased to nominate Brittany “Bee” Schmidt, RN, a nurse at Lakeview Specialty Hospital, for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
During my time at Lakeview, I have witnessed Bee's unwavering dedication to her patients’ well-being. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure each patient receives the highest standard of care. She embodies compassion, professionalism, and a deep commitment to patients, families, and staff.
Bee invests time in understanding each patient’s story. She frequently communicates with their families to learn more about their likes, dislikes, and how she can enhance their hospital experience. She takes the initiative to go beyond basic duties, such as assisting with full-body showers or coordinating with families to take their loved ones outside for a few minutes. Though these actions may seem simple, they require significant coordination with other staff members.
Bee consistently demonstrates excellent clinical skills and advocates strongly for her patients. She carefully reviews patient charts for any changes or abnormalities and promptly brings concerns to the physician's attention. When necessary, she escalates issues to ensure they are addressed quickly. These qualities demonstrate her commitment to providing exceptional, patient-centered care.
In addition, Bee went out of her way to meet with the family of a patient who passed away. She shows compassion and makes a personal connection with the whole family. She truly goes above and beyond each day for her patients.
