Bridgette in her calm and gentle way encourage me with options to regain my abilities to feel when I needed to use the bathroom.
I would like to share my experience with you regarding a special young nurse, Bridgette. I awoke in the hospital with chronic kidney failure, chronic heart failure, and spinal cord injury. The spinal cord sends messages to the brain for the ability to feel. I had lost the feeling in my left leg, hands, and bladder. I could not stand or walk, and my hands drew up, and my fingers made a fist like claws. I couldn't even feed myself. My spinal cord was damaged in my neck and my lower back. After two surgeries in two days, I came to Patricia Neal Rehab Hospital, where my nurse was, Bridgette. I was unable to feel when I needed to use the bathroom. I was deeply depressed because of so many things that were wrong with me. I felt hopeless, Bridgette in her calm and gentle way encourage me with options to regain my abilities to feel when I needed to use the bathroom. Her knowledge, skills, and understanding proved that she was wise beyond her years. I had to be catheterized to drain my bladder. She trained me to go to the bathroom every 3 hours, and eventually I was able to urinate without being catheterized. She would get excited when I had success urinating and give me warm hugs. She was there for me and gave me lots of praise for my success. She has one of the kindest hearts that I've ever known. My gratitude to her will always be there for her.
