My mother passed away during the early morning when Brianna was not on. Though we were still there when she came in, she immediately came to my mom's room before even taking her jacket off, and it was very obvious how much she cared for all of us.
Recently our mother was admitted to St. Joe's, upon getting to the inpatient unit in the room, we were greeted by Brianna her nurse. She cared for mom for four straight days. With mom being hard of hearing, unsure of medical terms and not
entirely pleased to be in the hospital, she was a bit scared and unhappy.
Brianna met her with compassion, broke things down for her to understand, and went above and beyond to ensure not only my mother's comfort, but also ours. My mom's condition declined fairly quickly, but Brianna was on the ball with every change. When we had questions, she answered. When we needed some positivity, she brought it. Toward the end of the four days and my mom declining rapidly, we made the decision to move forward with comfort measures per my mom's wishes, as she was extremely uncomfortable.
Brianna was incredible during this difficult time and ensured we knew every move she made, explained everything that
was going to happen, and made sure my mom had the most comfortable end of life possible. She made sure we had
drinks, suggested we take breaks if she could see we were struggling, and even told us, "It is okay to go for a bit and take a
breath! I promise to call you if she even wiggles a toe!" Sometimes I need that reminder!
This was the most difficult decision for us to make, and of course, the saddest. My mother passed away during the early morning when Brianna was not on. Though we were still there when she came in, she immediately came to my mom's room before even taking her jacket off, and it was very obvious how much she cared for all of us. This award could never give the recognition she
deserves; she is an all-around amazing nurse. Thank you, Brianna, for caring so deeply about our mom, and also us. Your
care and demeanor during such a difficult time did not go unnoticed, and I will forever sing your praises.
