Brianna was the nurse assigned to care for L for several nights. We knew (including her family) that L's condition was terminal, and she was being admitted after delivery for palliative care. Brainna bonded with the family and did a lot of education on what to expect and how to care for L. She empowered them in a scary circumstance and gave them tools to love on their daughter and involve their family. She held L for hours while she had seizures, and the parents were afraid to hold her. She held L so mom could sleep. Not knowing how long L had to spend with her family, Brianna and another RN took newborn photos of L in outfits of the family's choice (of course, with their permission). She took handprints and footprints and made impressions of L's hands and feet for the family. After a few days of emotional ups and downs, the parents went home to sleep. They felt comfortable leaving L with Brianna because they trusted Brianna.

Brianna is not a huggy person, and she doesn't show a lot of sad emotion when caring for babies (she is a seasoned nurse and maintains professionalism with families). Brianna was hugging mom by the time the baby was nearing discharge, and she was tearful when L's condition declined. The family told Brianna she is a part of their family, and they brought her a special gift after L's death. This family and L had such a positive impact made by Briannna and her extraordinary care.

Brianna went above and beyond in her care of the baby and of the family during an emotional and difficult time.
