Aside from being a bright, skilled ICU nurse, Briana has a natural way of showing compassion to her patients, which does not go unnoticed.
Briana embraced the Sutter Spirit by demonstrating compassion while caring for a patient at the end of life. Aside from being a bright, skilled ICU nurse, Briana has a natural way of showing compassion to her patients, which does not go unnoticed. SSMC had just launched "Good Grief Support," which includes a bin with resources staff can use to provide emotional support and comfort to patients and family members.
At the time her patient transitioned to Comfort Care, she used the sympathy card and keepsake (the patient's fingerprint on a matted frame) and gifted it to the patient's close friend/family. A few days after the patient passed, the family reached out to the Hospice Liaison and expressed how thankful they were for the keepsake item. It was a nice gesture that was very thoughtful, and she asked if she could have a second frame with their loved one's fingerprint to gift to another family member. A frame was mailed to their home.
Briana's simple gesture made a big impact and left the patient's family feeling supported and comforted during this difficult time.
