Brian is an exceptional nurse in our 4C department. As Brian's manager for over 3 years, I have received and witnessed countless positive patient testimonies of the profound impact Brian has made during their visit to Hurley's surgical department. His dedication to providing compassionate, high-quality care embodies the very spirit of this award.

Surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the patients themselves know they can depend on Brian to thoroughly assess a patient's readiness for surgery. I distinctly recall multiple events when Brian picked up on subtle deviations in a pre-op patient's presentation that resulted in an appropriate change to the plan of care.

Patient safety is a priority for Brian always. In the intensely customer service-based environment of 4C, where procedures can be stressful for patients, Brian remains composed and efficient. He ensures every step of the process runs smoothly. Brian has an easy smile that instantly puts patients at ease, turning potentially anxious moments into reassuring experiences. He takes the time to listen, explains the pre or post op process clearly, and offers kind words of encouragement, making each patient feel valued and cared for.

Brian's compassion stands out the most with his pediatric patients and their anxious parents. He is outstanding at putting the kids at ease, both pre-op and post- op. Oftentimes, it is the parent who is more anxious than the child, and Brian knows how to reassure parents well. He also understands how to balance the wants of the child and parent to be discharged home quickly post-operatively, but to also ensure the discharge is a safe one.

Among the 4C team, Brian is a go-to person for coworker advice or a helping hand. He fosters a collaborative and supportive atmosphere that enhances the entire department. His hard-working nature means he's always willing to go the extra mile. Brian's combination of clinical expertise, empathy, and enthusiasm makes him an outstanding nurse and a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.
