No one sleeps in the hospital, but I had the best nights when Brenna was my night nurse.
This is my second stay at Mayo Clinic for BMT/CAR T. In 2022 I had a SCT. Brenna was one of my night nurses. One that always smiled and made me feel comfortable during a very difficult process. It's hard when you are relatively young and independent to be cared for by others. Personal situations arise, and nurses who are my children's age are taking care of those issues. Brenna reassured me that I shouldn't be embarrassed and that she took care of many people with different issues. She was always kind and informative when I asked many questions. She made a deep impression, and I admired her care and professionalism.
When I started my second stay, 2 1/2 years later for CAR T, I hoped that Brenna would still be working on the floor and I would have her as part of my caregiving team, and I did. Just as I remembered, she was the same. During the night she was so kind when she had to come and take labs, give meds, etc. She would explain what she had to do. Soft spoken so as not to startle me if I was sleeping. Thoughtful and caring. I never felt as if I was a burden if I needed help with the bathroom, needed a blanket, a drink, or just to listen to concerns. She was attentive to what was happening and not just following orders. No one sleeps in the hospital, but I had the best nights when Brenna was my night nurse.
