What stood out most about Brendan as a nurse is that he never once forgot that my father was the patient and spoke with him about everything while the family members listened in.
Brendan went above and beyond any nurse my family has ever encountered.
My father was airlifted to the ICU. He was being treated for pneumonia, a heart attack, renal failure, and multiple comorbidities.
Brendan took the time each day that my father was awake to chat with him, get to know him, and each of our family members. He even knew each grandchild's name as they visited without even meeting them.
He was on top of every medication change (all memorized immediately), how he repositioned, what would happen if repositioned, reexplaining any medical conditions and outcomes as noted by the physicians, and was so above and beyond with every family member.
What stood out most about Brendan as a nurse is that he never once forgot that my father was the patient and spoke with him about everything while the family members listened in. Even when my father was on a ventilator and asleep, he told my father what he was about to do and why, as if he were fully awake. He was patient-centric, and this stood out.
Additionally, Brendan went above and beyond knowing that his granddaughter was in college for nursing and he took the time to explain everything he was doing and the why and how to a greater degree so that she could learn from it and have a positive correlation to the outcome that we all knew was imminent.
Brendan was also training a travel nurse during this and was patient, conscientious, listened, and could be heard discussing the how and why. We have never seen such incredible care for a patient's mind, body, and spirit as Brendan provided, and he deserves the utmost respect.
Thank you, Brendan, from the bottom of each of my family's hearts and my father's, who was so appreciative and impressed by your kindness and knowledge.
