Brenda, you were my night shift nurse for most of my stay, and even on the nights you weren't assigned to me, you fought for me, and I will always remember that. Every evening, I lit up when I saw you come on shift. "Hey Friend!" I never knew who my nurse would be each night, but I hoped it would be you. I'm so glad you worked so many nights while I was here and didn't have a vacation planned or something-although you deserve one! You listened to me complain, you never made me feel like a burden, and you always showed so much compassion. You were so informed, advocated for me, and gave me choices when everything felt out of my control. You took an overwhelmingly horrible situation and somehow made it manageable by breaking it down and letting me be part of my care. You went above and beyond by helping plan my PRN medication regimen to get my pain under control and always asking for my input and preference. Going from being a bedside nurse to being an actual patient in this kind of situation is something I never expected, and it was terrifying. You made me feel like my voice and opinions mattered, and that made all the difference. You'll never know how much I appreciated that. Thank you for being a great nurse.
