Brandon consistently assists his peers in explaining theory content and/or in the demonstration of skills.
Brandon Fickbohm is a 3rd-semester nursing student in the ADN full-time program. Brandon Fickbohm was nominated by 4 individuals. Here is a collection of what they had to say:

Brandon is an intelligent, motivated, mature, and conscientious individual. He is always found with a smile on his face and was very welcoming to others. His enthusiasm for learning is immediately apparent. He is a strong student who takes his education very seriously. He can be found in the nursing lab, HS building, and in the classroom studying diligently. Brandon exhibits great leadership in a variety of ways. He has taken the role of SNA President, is a peer mentor for 1st-semester students, and assisted with many SNA events such as helping assist at the FVTC open house to prospective students.

He displayed leadership skills, a kind and compassionate attitude, and a willingness to assist wherever needed. Brandon consistently assists his peers in explaining theory content and/or in the demonstration of skills. At the clinical site, if he has already performed a skill, he will find a peer who has not done the skill and offer it to a peer. He quizzes his peers and offers study advice on theory content. Staff at the clinical informed Brandon his assigned patient was “gruff and surly”. Brandon spent the day with this patient, explaining everything he was doing, and offering advice, some so simple as how to hold the urinal. The patient thanked Brandon at the end of the day and was sad to see him leave.

Another instructor stated Brandon has excellent communication skills. He is able to talk to anyone, and he listens to understand. When a provider was on the floor, Brandon asked questions to clarify and provided advocacy for his assigned patients. He works well as a team member and appears to be able to find common ground with others while holding true to his values, beliefs, and opinions. He often adds a different perspective to discussions.

From a student perspective, Brandon has repeatedly gone out of his way to check on us while balancing his semester load and life. One hard day, Brandon walked over and asked me how things were going. After expressing concern, he sat down in the booth and we spoke about it. By taking the time to focus on me, allowing me time to vent, and asking me questions which helped me come up with a solution, were instrumental in changing my mind about leaving the program. He is not aware that is what I was considering. Brandon's patience and genuine concern, and selflessness are admirable. His compassion for all of us fellow students by taking time out of his busy schedule to make sure we are all achieving our best is top-notch. I honestly see Brandon as a perfect model of what a nurse and human being with integrity and compassion truly is now. The design depicts the unique relationship nurses have with their patients and how nurses are treasures to the community.
