My husband was a patient on 4 East. He had not been an inpatient for decades. I am his wife and I am a retired RN and NP after having worked in medical facilities for decades with hundreds of RNs and CNAs. I am acutely aware of staff treatment of patients in their care. Bobby Jo took care of my husband for several days. She consistently kept us updated on M's labs, condition, and what to anticipate. M and I had several questions each day, and Bobby Jo either answered them or asked an appropriate person and then told us. She followed through in a timely manner, which gave us reassurance and understanding of his treatment. I realize that my background makes me pay closer attention to healthcare providers and the care that they give. Bobby Jo perfectly handled the balancing act of treating M as the patient, and me as both a nurse and a caring spouse of a patient. We clearly saw that she listened to both of us, and made sure both of our needs were met, especially M's. She taught us both about his health and consistently supported his decisions. One of our adult sons visited one day, and he also had questions. Bobby Jo answered him and relieved his concerns. He is very uncomfortable with hospital settings, and Bobby Jo's demeanor and great care even put him at ease. In addition to her professionalism, she has a wonderfully warm personality and a great sense of humor, which M and I appreciated. It helped put us at ease. Most of all, M and I felt comfortable and safe leaving him in the hospital because of the consistently good care given by Bobby Jo as well as the other 4 East staff members we encountered. The other staff members also included the ER staff, food service, maintenance, and discharge planner. We knew M needed to be in a hospital, but we never imagined it would be as positive an experience as it was at Summit Hospital. Thank you so very much.
