She helped him and us in ways that we did not even know we needed. I am so thankful for her and her compassion
Where do I even begin?
At just one day old, we were told our baby boy had a rare heart defect, TAPVR. The next day, he was having open-heart surgery. A parent's worst nightmare. Betsy was our nurse during the day shift for about two or three days during our stay in CVICU. I could tell right away that Betsy was a God-send.
She was patient, loving, kind, and all around a phenomenal nurse. As scared as my husband and I were, Betsy made sure to answer each and every question we had, all while taking care of our baby. The compassion she displayed was amazing. Not only did she care for him in the medical aspect, but she also gave him comfort and love. These were two things that we desperately wanted our baby to have on top of having his medical needs met.
Betsy made three crafts with our baby, and I will forever cherish them. One day, while we stepped away to eat lunch, we returned to find a banner that she had made hanging on his door. Another time, we walked in to find a lullaby playlist soothing our upset baby. Betsy was using her own cell phone to make this magic happen. On our last day in ICU, Betsy asked if she could give us a Bible. I said, "Yes, but only if you will sign it".
The message she wrote brought me to tears, and I will make sure that our baby knows who she is when he gets older. She helped him and us in ways that we did not even know we needed. I am so thankful for her and her compassion. I know that she was made for this and will make so many lives better just through being her.
