Betiana was able to compassionately help and guide his family through the whole process both as a nurse and as a person.
Betiana has shown so much growth as a nurse and as a person. Recently, she had a patient who was diagnosed with covid and the patient was not doing well. The family had decided to choose hospice care for the patient and they were having a very hard time emotionally. The patient's son was also hospitalized at another hospital's inpatient hospice unit and was dying of cancer, so this was a highly emotional time for the patient and for the family. Betiana advocated for her patient and his family so that each family member who wanted to come and say their goodbyes could do so. She showed compassion and professionalism far beyond her years as a nurse and as a person.

She stayed assigned to the patient for 3 days and also picked up a 4th day just so she could be with him and his family when they had planned to withdraw care and be able to support him and his daughter as he quietly passed away.

Betiana was able to advocate for her patient and his family to the doctors and administration to afford this patient the ability to die with dignity and she was able to compassionately help and guide his family through the whole process both as a nurse and as a person. She was able to support her patient and the family, specifically the daughter through the most painful heartbreaking process and was able to make it a beautiful experience for both of them.

As a person who has lost both of her parents, and watched both of them pass while holding their hands, it can be the worst or the best experience depending upon the nurse that is guiding the process. Betiana was emotionally invested with this family and the daughter said that she could not have done it without her and she was so thankful for her.

This experience was highly emotional for Betiana and we as a team supported her through it as well, she came out of the room on a few occasions to shed some tears, but was able to go back in and continue to care for the family. The hospice nurse from Vitas also complimented Betiana and said she was blown away by the way she handled herself and the caring and compassion she showed for the patient and the family. I am proud to work side by side with this nurse and look forward to watching her grow in her career!
