Her coordination and efforts with the team directly resulted in the patient receiving proper, timely comfort measures when he passed overnight.
Congratulations to our most recent DAISY Award recipient, Beth Chase ADN, RN. Beth is a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. Her nomination was submitted by a Postbaccalaureate Nurse Resident: “Beth is a nightshift Charge RN. She is one of the most valuable resources in our ICU. She is a resource to our unit and a resource to the rest of the hospital as a nursing voice of expertise in the geriatric field. Her knowledge, guidance, and skill set as a Charge RN allows the rest of the nurses to give the best care possible to the veterans we serve. She always strives to provide intentional, patient-centered care. She's never afraid to have tough conversations and gives meaningful feedback to the nurses around her. One night, there was a patient circling the drain. As nurses, we all knew that if the patient didn't pass overnight, he would most likely pass within the next few days. While the primary RN was busy taking care of the patient hemodynamically, Beth took it upon herself to talk with the covering medical team to ensure that this patient would have the proper medications and interventions in place if his already poor prognosis took a turn for the worse. Her coordination and efforts with the team directly resulted in the patient receiving proper, timely comfort measures when he passed overnight. Beth's guidance, behind-the-scenes coordination, and patient-centered compassionate care approach assisted this patient's wishes to pass comfortably, a great final gift to this veteran.”
