Ben Lahav just brings love wherever he goes. He has the biggest heart and the warmest smile. I remember the first time he was assigned to my sister he told her she was not just a patient with him; she was family. His actions showed just how much he truly meant that. S was very sick after a big surgery to remove a large cancerous mass in her transverse colon. She had also struggled with AFIB for many months before this surgery. Ben advocated for S in ways I have never seen a nurse do. She was declining rapidly over the course of 10 days, although the surgery had been successful. Ben knew something else was going on, and he continued to ask for help from on-call doctors and staff. He prayed with S in English and Hebrew, which brought her so much comfort. He was always so kind to her, even when she was disoriented and others thought she was resisting getting up or moving. S would ask for Ben when she was really struggling because he always brought her peace. Ben was pivotal in getting S moved back to the 9th floor when she had an AFIB attack. He continued to check on her and advocate for her best interests. She ended up having emergency surgery the next day and passed away from sepsis. Ben just had an intuitive sense about her illness, even though the myriad of test results did not show the degree of sepsis she had. Ben embodies the superheroes he proudly displays on his scrubs. He is an "Earth Angel" and one of the best examples of humanity I have witnessed in my lifetime. Ben truly deserves this award. He is innately compassionate, kind, and caring.
