Ben, you didn’t just do your job; you changed the course of my son’s care for the better.
There’s an incredible nurse here on the surgical floor named Ben Evans! He’s a tall guy, so you can’t miss him. But beyond his height, what truly makes him stand out is his unwavering dedication to his patients and their families.
My son has had a long and complex medical journey, and I’ve been advocating for him to receive a PICC line to make his care more manageable. Today, as the inpatient doctor discussed his plan, Ben didn’t just listen—he stayed in the room, made sure he was up to date, and waited for the right moment to advocate for what he knew was best.
When the PICC line wasn’t initially prioritized, Ben didn’t let that slide. With confidence, knowledge, and compassion, he spoke up and made it clear why this step was essential. Because of Ben’s advocacy, the doctor stopped what he was doing and called IR immediately to adjust the plan, ensuring that my son got what he needed.
I have told everyone—from housekeeping to the Starbucks barista—how much this meant to me. Ben, you didn’t just do your job; you changed the course of my son’s care for the better. You saw the bigger picture, you listened, and you fought for what was right. That is the mark of an extraordinary nurse.
Ben, you deserve this DAISY Award and so much more. Thank you for being the kind of nurse every patient and parent hopes for.

Nurse Ben Evans gave our son exceptional care while he was an inpatient at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Ben’s incredible level of kindness, empathy, compassion, and ability to connect with our son were fundamental in our son feeling safe and cared for in a very scary situation. We felt that we were in great hands with Ben, and that at every turn, he would be there to support our son through his inpatient experience. Not only was Ben highly skilled, professional, and attentive, but he also brought a deep sense of calm and groundedness to our son’s care, which was crucial in helping him relax and feel less stressed during his hospital stay. We hope Ben gets the recognition he truly deserves for his exceptional level of service as a nurse.
