December 2025 Honoree
Belinda Eyers, EN
During my mother's stay in SSSU, Belinda consistently provided the compassionate, skilled, person-centered care that makes a profound difference for patients and their families. From the moment she introduced herself to my mother and the family, she created an atmosphere of calm and reassurance. She has a unique ability to make you feel seen as a person, not just as a patient in a busy unit. One particular moment was when my mother was told she only had a few short weeks; she had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and she was experiencing a very difficult and overwhelming day, both physically and emotionally. Belinda noticed immediately before we said anything and took the time to sit with us, explain what was happening, and make sure we understood the treatment plans and what to expect next. Her presence alone eased our anxiety, but she went even further, advocating for mum’s comfort and ensuring her care plan reflected her needs. Her clinical skills were obvious, but what mattered most was her patience, kindness, and genuine empathy. Belinda is an extraordinary nurse whose compassion, expertise and dedication embody everything the DAISY award represents. She made a lasting impact on mum’s x 2 stay in SSSU and our family's well-being, and I am deeply grateful for the care she provided my mother. I am almost finished with my Enrolled Nursing at Tas Tafe. Belinda has whole-heartedly changed me and if I can become the nurse Belinda is I will aspire other people to become extra-ordinary nurses, just like Belinda.
Thank you, Belinda, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
