She is a blessing to our patients and to our department for so many reasons.
Becky Jones has been a nurse at SMOZ T&T for many years. She is a reliable, passionate, caring, and loving Nurse who provides excellent care to all her patients. She is a blessing to our patients and to our department for so many reasons. I would like to share just one example that sticks out to exemplify her love and passion for patient care.
This summer, Becky was walking out to her car after her shift, and she came upon a husband whose wife was falling out of her wheelchair outside the hospital by the pond. She approached them and asked how she could help. The husband explained to her that he was trying to get his wife in the car for a GI appointment, but couldn’t, so he decided to walk to the appointment instead. Becky knew something was wrong and that she needed to assist in any way possible. She lifted the patient back in the wheelchair and then pushed her in the wheelchair up the hill back onto the sidewalk. She escorted them to the GI office. During their walk to the office, she voiced concern about the wife's condition, whether they have help at home, and how they would get back home after the appointment. The husband stated he takes care of her and does everything, and has no help.
After the patient and her husband were brought to the office safely by Becky, she took an extra step and talked to E, NP, whom the patient was going to be seeing. She explained how she found them and the concerns she had. Again, going above and beyond, showing her true passion for patient care.
As she told me what happened today, she was still concerned about what occurred and followed up with E again. E stated she got them a ride home via ambulance through the ER, and that the patient has dementia and is failing, and that it’s too much for the husband.
I would like to nominate Becky Jones for the DAISY Award. Becky makes a difference each day she’s in Testing and Treatment and goes above and beyond even after she clocks out. Becky, thank you for being you and going the extra mile to care for the vulnerable and to be their advocate. You are a great example of our new mission: Answering God's call to bring health, healing, and hope to all!
