It is my privilege to commend Barbara Eckert. Barbie consistently exceeds expectations; she is caring and dedicated to anything she does. Barbie works hard to make a difference in anything she believes in, and our school was blessed that she believed in us.

At a time when our Student Nurses’ Association needed leadership, Barbie stepped up and accepted the role of President. She took on this responsibility during a period when the organization needed rebuilding and renewed direction. Rather than being discouraged by the work ahead, Barbie embraced the challenge. She worked alongside me, as the faculty advisor, to rebuild the organization, increase involvement, and create a stronger foundation for future nursing students.

Barbie has worked incredibly hard to keep the organization moving forward. She has been dependable, dedicated, and consistently willing to give her time and energy wherever it was needed. Her leadership has not simply been about holding the title of President; it has been about being present. She is someone students can approach, someone who listens, and someone who is always willing to help.

What stands out most about Barbie is her willingness to serve others. She does not seek recognition for the work she does. Instead, she sees a need and responds. Whether supporting another student, helping with an event, communicating with members, or taking care of the many behind-the-scenes responsibilities necessary to keep an organization functioning, Barbie can be counted on.

Rebuilding a student organization takes persistence, patience, and commitment. There were many times when it would have been easier to become discouraged, but Barbie continued to move forward. Her dedication helped breathe new life into our Student Nurses’ Association and provided other students with opportunities for leadership, service, professional development, and connection.

I believe some of the most important qualities we hope to see in future nurses are compassion, reliability, leadership, advocacy, teamwork, and a willingness to serve others. Barbie has demonstrated these qualities throughout her time as President. She has already shown that she understands an important part of nursing: leadership is not about having a title; it is about being willing to step forward when others need you.

I am incredibly grateful for the support Barbie has given me and for everything she has done for our students and our organization. Because of her hard work and commitment, the organization is stronger than it was when she stepped into this role, and she will leave something meaningful behind for the students who follow her.

Barbie has made a lasting difference in our nursing program and has demonstrated the heart, dedication, and leadership that I believe will make her an exceptional nurse.

Thank you, Barbara, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
