September 2026 Honoree
Bailey Mullis, BSN, RN
I am honored to commend Bailey Mullis, my daughter M's night shift nurse. During one of the most difficult and frightening seasons of my life, Bailey became so much more than a nurse, she became a source of comfort, confidence, and unwavering support for both my daughter and I.
From the very beginning, Bailey treated me as an important member of M's care team. Even when I was frustrated, scared, or overwhelmed, she always listened patiently and respectfully. She never dismissed my concerns. Instead, she took the time to hear me out, answer my questions, and even pull up diagrams on her computer so I could better understand what was happening with my daughter's condition and care. She empowered me to be an advocate for M, consistently encouraging me to ask the questions that weighed heavily on my heart.
Bailey had a remarkable ability to walk into our room with a bright smile, ready and willing to address my next fear, concern, or question. No matter how dark the day felt, she remained calm, professional, and reassuring. Her steady presence gave me confidence when I felt lost and uncertain. One of the greatest gifts Bailey gave me was rest. She would take M to the nurses' station for feedings and extra snuggles so I could sleep, knowing that my daughter was safe and loved. She was incredibly schedule-oriented and always asked how I envisioned the night going, especially regarding M's feeds and care.
At the same time, she knew me well enough to recognize when I desperately needed help but was too stubborn to ask for it. Without hesitation, she would step in and take over so I could recharge, with full awareness that this was exactly what was necessary so I could be the mother I needed to be for her patient and my daughter, which I felt was an unspoken yet very important and mutual goal of ours. What impressed me most was Bailey's humility and commitment to providing the best care possible. Whenever she encountered a question or situation beyond her expertise, she immediately sought guidance from the charge nurse or peers rather than making assumptions. Her dedication to doing what was best for M was evident in every decision she made.
Bailey also brought joy to those around her. It was clear how much she loved helping her coworkers and how genuinely invested she was in getting to know M and me as people. She spent extra moments in our room learning about us so she could personalize our care and support us in the ways we needed most- these were our most treasured moments with Bailey. The bond Bailey built with M and me was so profound that on the nights she was not assigned to us, I genuinely felt lost and unsure how I would make it through without her calming presence. She made us feel deeply loved, seen, and cared for during a time when we needed it most.
Bailey is a beautiful combination of intelligence, empathy, professionalism, and compassion. Her clinical excellence is matched only by her extraordinary heart. She made an immeasurable difference in our lives, and I cannot think of a more deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.
Thank you, Bailey, for being who you are to our M and me. We will forever treasure these nights with you and look back knowing that although they were filled with uncertainty, fear, and sometimes sadness, you always had a way of quietly guiding me past my mental roadblocks and bringing light into even the darkest circumstances.

My daughter was admitted to Wolfson after being transferred by the ER at the town center for a stroke. My daughter and our family were all terrified since she was only 17 and she had multiple strokes with damage to both sides of her brain. We were told this information and were, of course, in our feelings when Bailey came in to introduce herself and to meet us since her shift was just starting. Her sweet smile and adorable personality made everything seem so much better. She was extremely empathetic; she showed concern and genuine care and love not just to my daughter, who was her patient, but to me as well.
I never left, so my daughter's entire care team had to answer all of my thousands of questions constantly. Bailey did it with a smile and never stopped. Our visit was so smooth during the most difficult times because of having a nurse as phenomenal as Bailey. The entire staff on Wolfson's 5th floor neuro and the PICU on the 6th floor could not have been more fantastic. We were even sad to leave because we wouldn't be able to see them anymore. I cannot praise these angels enough, but Bailey was exceptional. Thank you all so much!
