My husband and I will cherish that experience we had forever, thanks to Ayumi.
My mother-in-law was cared for by this department for a couple of days during Thanksgiving. First, I would like to thank every single person involved in her care. TGH is truly a world-class organization with the best care, and I am forever grateful she got to experience the kindness and level of care that she did in her last days. It is so hard to put into words what I want to say about Ayumi because truly it’s a feeling- the care she provided will forever stay with me.

Ayumi was there both day shifts that my mother-in-law was there. Her patience, grace, kindness, and knowledge were above and beyond! She made sure to call my husband and me each day for an update and was truthful about her condition, never rushing us, answering every single question that we had. It is so important to have a knowledgeable, competent, and caring nurse, and Ayumi is just that! We visited each day and Ayumi made sure we were comfortable, informed, and had privacy as well.

I am a nurse and I have a whole new level of respect for ICU nurses/staff. Ayumi sat there meticulously calculating and titrating drips to keep my mother-in-law stable while still exhibiting compassion and care for my family. To know that she does this over and over and over again, this is truly an earth angel. She was able to lighten the sedation some so that we could have one last moment with her before she took a turn for the worse. And I tell you what, my husband and I will cherish that experience we had forever, thanks to Ayumi.

The next day, my mother-in-law took a turn for the worst and Ayumi made sure we were notified. We were able to come there and make decisions that truly respected her wish to pass peacefully and with dignity. Because of Ayumi's timely and accurate communication with us we got to the hospital in time to make decisions that would make her comfortable. Throughout the whole process, Ayumi was there.

She was there. I will never forget that she was there. Having a loved one pass is difficult, but Ayumi made it so much more comforting just having her there. Again, I would like to thank every single person involved in her care, but Ayumi needs special recognition. She is extraordinary! She exemplifies exactly what a DAISY Nurse is. I hope that she knows we will never forget how she made us feel during this difficult time.
