My surgeon came to my room to inform me that my cancer had metastasized beyond the surgical removal site. He then informed the nurses at the nurses' station of this information. Upon hearing this and knowing my family was not currently with me, Avery came to my room to check on me. Avery sat on the end of my bed, held my hand, and spoke reassuringly, telling me that this was not the end, and I have options.

She talked to me about the importance of staying positive. Avery sat with me and cried with me until I was no longer alone. Her compassion and kindness during my entire hospital stay have been a tremendous blessing during a difficult time.
