Our nurse, Autumn Clegg, was truly a blessing during my father’s stay at UHC. He was admitted with an infection that progressed into sepsis. The following day, Autumn was assigned as his nurse. He was feeling very unwell, worried, stressed, and overwhelmed. Autumn cared for him with such compassion, skill, and attentiveness that it not only helped him physically but also brought him comfort mentally and emotionally. Because of her dedication and attention to detail, she recognized issues with my father that had been overlooked by others. At the end of her shift, as she was leaving the hospital, a Rapid Response Code was called for his room when he went into V-tach. Autumn immediately returned, helped save his life, and stayed by our side. She contacted my brothers and me to come to the hospital and remained with my mother until we could be there. Since that terrifying day, she has continued checking in on us while he has been in the ICU. It is incredibly reassuring to know there are nurses like Autumn in healthcare, people who truly care about their patients and believe wholeheartedly in what they do.
