After my wife left following visiting hours, Austin, in the ICU, took a few minutes to talk with me. He explained everything I would be going through during my procedure. His calm and thoughtful approach put me at ease. He could tell I was feeling uncertain, and he took the time to share his knowledge and connect with me on a personal level.

To our surprise, we knew some of the same people, and I learned that I had worked with some of his relatives. That conversation helped me go to sleep feeling much more at peace. The next morning, things didn't go as planned. I had a heart attack, but the entire Henry Ford Macomb staff was incredible. The room quickly filled with doctors, nurses and assistants. They all worked together seamlessly to provide the best possible care.

Austin stayed with me the entire time. He helped me stay focused and gave me the support I needed in that critical moment. Even in the short time I spent with Austin in the ICU, it was clear how skilled and compassionate he was. His dedication and expertise were evident in everything he did.

What stood out even more was that he took the time to call and check in on me even when he was off his shift. That meant a great deal to me and spoke volumes about his character and commitment to his patients.

While I wish I could nominate many others, as my overall experience at Henry Ford was exceptional, I especially want to recognise this nurse. He made a lasting impact on me during one of the most difficult times in my life.
