I came to the emergency room from St. Luke’s urgent care through EMS with severe asthma. From the moment I got there, he was an extraordinary nurse. I was wheezing and doing really badly on 22 liters high flow and was pretty scared. He kept reassuring me that I was going to be okay. He kept talking to me about my nursing career that I am pursuing to keep my mind off things. I typically have a problem having male nurses, but he made me feel safe and less scared. He gave me a nebulizer that was new to him, and he asked for help. His skills and bedside manner were outstanding. He advocated for me to the docs when I was not doing too hot. I had to use the commode at 21 years old, and he made me feel less embarrassed about the situation. His compassion, dedication, empathy, and attentiveness to me, even with being in the ED, were amazing. Reassurance throughout my journey, all the way to the step-down ICU. He stayed to make sure I was settled and doing okay. He truly inspires me to want to be a nurse like him when I am done with school. His interest in asking more about my career was really nice. When my mom left, I hyperventilated. He kept reassuring me that I was going to be okay. If any nurse deserves to get the DAISY Award, it would be him. He thoroughly explained things to me before doing things, as I do have bad anxiety and was getting nervous about a lot. He kept explaining, even with everything going on.
